What is play therapy?

Play therapy uses child-friendly techniques which enable children to express themselves and explore their feelings and experiences.  By doing so they will start to feel better about themselves and can safely make sense of their life experiences, feelings and world around them.

Whereas adults generally prefer to talk through their problems, children often find it easier to express themselves and demonstrate how they feel through their play rather than just with words. By providing a safe and confidential space for children to express their emotions, therapists can help children to understand themselves, develop self-esteem and explore and manage their difficulties.

Its approach is gentle and effective.

“Play is the most natural method of self-healing that childhood affords.”
Eric Erikson
